NBC Boston reported the school system wasn't releasing the school where the employee worked or their job. Though, officials contacted parents at that school about the situation. The employee will quarantine via the Boston Public Health Commission guidelines.
"The health and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority," the district told NBC Boston in a statement. "We are following the guidance provided by local, state, and federal health officials and actively working with our partners at the Boston Public Health Commission. We remain deeply committed to transparency and are taking all necessary precautions. We encourage everyone to visit boston.gov/monkeypox to learn more about monkeypox."
Monkeypox is transmitted through close physical contact and is rarely fatal, the health commission said earlier this summer. Painful skin blisters are the most common symptom.
NBC Boston reported that people who have had contact with that employee would be offered a vaccine.
